FUTURE FEATURES:

So many activities happen by Cooper's Landing, that we will begin publishing articles from various writers and organizations interested in river history and events.

For example, how many of you know there is a system on the river to indicate where to navigate your boat, and where the water's too low to travel? Would you like to belong to the coast guard auxilliary? Would you like to participate on the local flotilla for the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial?

How many of you know that the Missouri River was much different during the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery expedition? Why were there so many mosquitoes during their trip through Missouri, and why are mosquitoes no longer a problem when traveling in the heart of the river? Where was the meandering river located then compared to now? What were the contributing factors that have caused the Missouri River to change its location?

Who the heck is Ira P. Nash, and why should anyone care? What was life like back in the early 1800's, before Missouri was a state, but land was already being claimed? What role did Lewis and Clark play in Missouri after the expedition? Did they know Ira P. Nash?

What do the nearby conservation areas preserve and protect? How do we continue to protect the Missouri River from pollution, and preserve native species of flora and animals? When is the best time to see the Bald Eagles who nest in the nearby conservation areas?

Do they allow hunting? What can be hunted? When is hunting season for ducks, wild turkey, and deer? Where do you get a fishing license?

What IS the Katy Trail? What is the difference between the MKT Trail and the Katy Trail? Where can you rent a bicycle to ride the Katy Trail? What can you expect to see while enjoying the fresh air and natural habitat of the Katy Trail?

When are the local festivals on the towns along the Missouri River, like the Hartsburg Pumpkin Fest, the Lupus Chili Fest, Columbia Hot Air Balloon Festival, Arts & Crafts festivals, and music festivals.

WANTED: WRITERS!

Always wanted to share your stories and experiences? We see all of you sitting around the campfire spinning your tales. How about becoming one of our contributing writers?

There's one man in particular who travels around the country on his bicycle every year from spring to fall who would be a wonderful continuing feature if we can convince him to share his travels with us. Hearing his stories are just incredible! He meets so many fascinating people, and sees such beauty in this wonderful country of ours. He also travels through Canada, and we'd love to hear the differences between the two countries.

Aside from outdoor adventures, there are many touching human interest stories. People who have beaten all the odds to be where they are. Those who struggle to survive; those who give freely their love and support. Such inspirational truths are meant to be shared!
